Most people probably have not seen my previous works here, as this blog was initially started a progress log for my commission works for Full of Monkey. It was a brief career as a painter for hire, for any who are curious.
I've recently decided to jump back in to 40k after taking a break for a few years. I still played Necromunda with friends, but dropped out of the local gaming scene as real life took over for awhile. Miniature painting and gaming has been a long time hobby of mine, and I never stay gone for too long. I've decided a new edition of 40k and a new Chaos codex was a perfect time to return. And so, I'm setting out to rebuild my legion, the Death Guard, which I sold a few years back to a private collector.
I suppose by starting fresh I should take a look back at my previous works. If nothing else as I measuring stick for myself, which will hopefully push me to improve my skills. I have always preferred a gritty, evocative style, as opposed to clean lines and trying to achieve "perfection."
Perhaps my greatest influence as an artist(aside from the legendary Dave Taylor) and what I identified with most was Migsula's Legion at Rhisienne thread of Dakka Dakka. His approach made me become more aware of myself as an artist, and maybe more specifically that miniature painting is art. I strongly encourage anyone who has not read his thread there to grab a beverage of your choice, kick back, and experience his vision for his hobby. Truly inspiring. For those interested his newer works can be found at Legion of Plastic.
My goal with my new army is to push my abilities, while not trying to paint with a different style than my own, if that makes sense. I feel my work has a "look" and while I want to strive to retain that look, I want to improve my technique.
Below are some of my models from my previous Death Guard army. Please feel free to comment ask questions about anything and everything! I hope to make regular entries about not only my army progress, but the Games Workshop hobby in general. If there's anything you would like to see me cover, please don't hesitate to ask!
